Quick Comparison

After spending over 70 hours testing more than 60 models of android TV boxes, we found the best android TV box available on the market is the Nvidia Shield TV 16 GB media streaming device. It features unparalleled performance in the speed and quality of its streaming. It also comes with its own game console to enhance the quality of your experience.

We also came up with 6 more products that stood out from the rest in terms of ease of use, quality of streaming among other great features. The EASYTONE with its Android 6.0 for example, stood true to its name and is very simple to navigate. Continue reading to learn more!

MINIX NEO U9-H + MINIX NEO A3, 2017 Android 6.0 Smart TV Box 4K HDR Mini PC Reviews

One of the best things we found with the MINIX NEO U9-H was how powerful the remote reception was; it proved able to easily and quickly select options even with obstructions, such as walls!

We liked the HDMI cable which allows the Globmall to process 4K videos providing clear and crisp images, and the Android 6.0 is very user friendly. Video streaming was fast and there was no buffering.

However, we didn’t like the fact that it is not compatible with Bluetooth, and you also can’t download the Netflix app on Google Play as it’s not compatible, which put it at a disadvantage compared to other options, but may not be relevant if you don’t use Bluetooth or Netflix.

    The Good
    • Simple to operate
    • Excellent, powerful remote control
    • Streams 4K videos
    The Bad
    • Not compatible with Bluetooth
    • Can’t download the Netflix app

Zidoo Android TV Box X10 Ultimate Image Quality Support Reviews

The Zidoo Android TV Box is the highest priced android TV box that we reviewed. The first thing that we noted was the speed of streaming. The videos streamed faster than any of the other models.

The quality of the videos was also very good at 1080p. You also have access to hundreds of games from Google Play.

We liked the console. Instead of using the remote or your phone, you can go full on and indulge in your favorite games and you have multiple options via the console buttons.

It is also possible to update to a later version of android OS such as the Nougat. However, we did notice some drawbacks.

For one there are only 2 USB ports on the Nvidia which means that your options are limited when you want to plug in extra devices like a mouse, wireless keyboard or external hard drive. Another downside is that when watching Netflix or Amazon Prime, it doesn’t have 5.1 Audio

    The Good
    • Fast streaming
    • Clear 4k videos
    • Runs on newer version of Android OS
    The Bad
    • Few USB ports

    DroidBOX T8-SE Reviews

The droidbox unlike the EASYTONE, runs on a much later version of Android OS— the 7.1.2 Nougat. This is good news as far as accessing features is concerned. It is also very simple to set up. Simply plug and play.

We enjoyed how easy it was to update the DroidBOX T8-SE. This is courtesy of the OTA or Over-The- Air Updates. The speed is also good. At 150mb/s, streaming videos was quick and there was no buffering. 32GB internal storage allows for downloading games and videos.

However, compared to the EASYTONE, accessing some of the features is not as simple. This is not the best thing for the older generation.

Testing how quickly it started, we noted that the DroidBOX will freeze sometimes requiring you to reboot.

    The Good
    • Simple to run, simply plug and play
    • Easy to update
    • Comes with Android7.1.2 Nougat
    The Bad
    • Freezes sometimes
    • Is not the simplest to operate

PROBOX2 Air Android TV Box Reviews

The PROBOX doesn’t freeze when starting and there is no need to reboot it. It runs on Android 6.0 which makes it simple to operate.

The quality of the video streaming is 1080p which is good. Unlike some models running on the 6.0 android OS, the PROBOX2 can be updated.

However, there was one main drawback. After continuously using the PROBOX 2, we noted that the mic would stop working. The box also lacks the DTS-pass through for surround sound.

    The Good
    • Simple to set up
    • Simple to operate
    • Can be updated
    The Bad
    • Doesn’t support surround sound
    • The mic has a tendency to stop working

EASYTONE Android 9.0 TV Box Reviews

The first thig we noticed with the EASYTONE is that it holds true to its name and is very simple and fast to set up. We also liked the fact that it runs on android 9.0.

The quality of the video streaming was good. With the Amlogic Quad Core Cortex A53 processor, the videos were able to stream fast with no buffering. One major downside is that it doesn’t upgrade

    The Good
    • Easy to set up

    • Fast streaming with no interruptions

    • Doesn’t upgrade

JYDMIX Android 6.0 Smart TV Box Reviews

The JYDMIX runs on android 6.0 making it very simple to operate which is good news for the older generation. We liked the quality of the images. They are crisp and clear.

We also liked that the JYDMIX can be used with a wireless mouse as well as wireless keyboard. This made selecting different options quick and easy at the convenient of the seat. Setting up the TV Box is relatively simple requiring you to just plug it in and connect to the internet.

However, selecting the different options on the screen is not easy with the remote control. We also noted that the items on the bottom line of the screen are blocked out which meant that we had to reduce the size of the screen to 89%.

    The Good
    • Simple to set up
    • Easy to operate
    • 16Gb internal storage
    The Bad
    • The remote control is not comfortable and simple to use

JUSTOP MXG 4K Android 7.1 TV Box Reviews

This is the most affordable Android TV box in our list. Even for the price we liked that it comes with an updated version of OS—the Android 7.1 Nougat.

This TV box is also not short of android apps. You can download easily from Google Play store. Browsing the internet is simple and you can easily chat on social media as well as send messages through skype.

We liked that the JUSTOP provides two options for connecting to the internet. This is through Wi-Fi and Ethernet cable which makes this android box quite versatile.

On the downside, the remote clicks whenever you press the buttons. This is not very comfortable. It is also not the simplest android box to set up.

    The Good
    • Cheap and highly affordable
    • Latest android 7.1 nougat OS
    • Both Wi-Fi and ethernet compatible
    The Bad
    • Not easy to set up
    • There is a clicking noise whenever you press the remote button.

Frequently asked questions

What Are Android TV Boxes?

As the name suggests, an Android TV box is simply a set up box that runs on the Android operating system. This is the same OS that is on your Android Smartphone, although the main difference is that it’s usually an older version, such as android 5 or 6.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Android TV Boxes?

An Android TV box allows you to watch videos in high-definition. You can also browse the internet and play games on your TV without a console. Users are able to share websites, chat online as well as check email right from their TVs. Instead of watching videos online using the small phone or laptop screen, the TV screen is larger, which provides a more enhanced experience.

One main drawback with Android TV boxes is the lack of storage space, and if you enjoy downloading games or movies to play later, this can be a challenge. There’s also the issue with programs running in the background which use a lot of data.

What Should I Look for When Choosing an Android TV Box?

The first thing to check is the operating system. The best Android TV boxes should run on either Android 6 or Android 7. Stay away from one that runs on Android 5 if you can as this is quite an old version.

The second thing is to consider how user friendly it is. You want to avoid a TV box that is too complicated to run. Instead, look for one with a custom launcher.

The Android TV box should also feature firmware updates, which will prevent you from having to use an outdated TV box.

Internet connectivity is also really important. Some Android TV boxes will use an Ethernet cable, others are compatible with wireless internet, while there are those that use fiber optic. The type of internet connectivity you have in your house will determine the type of Android TV box you will get. We suggest the JUSTOP MXG 4K Android 7.1 TV Box.

If you intend to view videos in ultra-high definition, then a useful feature is a HDMI 2.0 port. Netflix, Hulu and YouTube now have videos un UHD so check if your box has this port.

You might also want to plug in a mouse for easier and faster navigation. This is why the best Android TV box should come with a couple of USB ports. This will also allow you to insert an external drive for downloads.

What’s the Approximate Price Range for Android TV Boxes?

When it comes to Android TV boxes, the price range can be large from costing as little as £20 to upwards of £70. There are also some models that will cost more than £180.

What Are the Main Competitors to Android Boxes, and How Do They Compare?

The Apple TV box is probably the number 1 competitor of the Android TV box. It runs on the Apple TVOS but it lacks support for Google Chromecast and doesn’t have an optical out port. In the UK, Apple TV only provides Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

Nvidia Shield TV 2017 is another late addition to the world of set up boxes. You can access Google Play as well as the game collection from Nvidia.

Fire TV stick with Alexa voice remote from Amazon is a small and compact device that is the size of a USB stick and can be plugged directly into the TV, and it’s great for people who don’t enjoy the sight of a black box next to the TV. With it you can enjoy Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, Netflix, ITV Hub, UK TV Play as well as All 4 and My 5.

Roku 3 allows you to stream Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Apps as well as games from Google Play.

There’s also the Sky Now TV box, which is among the most affordable TV boxes in the market, and you can gain access to Sky Entertainment, Sky Sports and Sky Movies.

What's the Top-Rated Android Box for Using KODI?

This is hands down the Nvidia shield TV. While it looks slender in design, it packs a heavy punch when it comes to power. It also features Terga graphics X1 Card,3GB RAM as well as HDR support.
