Website Builder

There’s many Website Builder tools out there, but there’s also a downside to these type of places. Namely that they usually offer it but only if you sign up for their high priced hosting so you pay many times over the cost of just having a site made and hosting it at a lower price. This is done to get people who don’t know how to make a web site to sign up, then you cannot move your site to a real domain in many cases, since it’s hosted on theirs and you’re stuck. If you put real money and time into getting search engine ranking and you’re hosted on their domain, if you move to your own then you’ll lose all the traffic since the URL will change.

Instead of using a Website Builder tool, it’s always best to get your own domain and host it there. This way if you change web hosts your domain and all your email accounts go with you, you’re not stuck. Most sites don’t need to be updated that often so having a professional do it one time is usually the best option, then learning to make changes is very easy and won’t take much time. Also the Website Builder type of tools are usually very limited, it’s not like having Frontpage or some other professional application where you have a lot of options and automation.

I don’t recommend using any website builder other than Front Page, Dream Weaver, or a real website designer.
