I finally gave in and went to an orientation meeting for this company with a friend who just became involved. Now I know why he couldn't or wouldn't give me any information. It's not difficult, but is very deep and detailed. You can't learn but just small amounts at a time over several sessions. Can you make money, yes. Lots more than you might imagine. The real upside is there are no over priced products you hve to buy and store in your garage and go out and SELL them. They don't sell products. My wife and I joined the following week and we're working on it.

I've been approached by one of my very good customers, who in return has become a pal. I don't think he'd lie to me, him and his wife are very good people. He's been in it a few years, but had slacked for about a year or so. He's been active in it again for several months. His return? Helped put $10k towards a bike. He owns several businesses and wants to sell out of 90% of what he owns, just so he can do it full time. It's not supporting him, but it's enough for him to want to sell out of his companies that's already successful! That's saying a lot. There's a LOT of negativity out there, but if you pay attention, it's never anyone that's actually TRIED it and failed! You really do get what you put into it.

There was a roofer I spoke to, I remember his company. He's sold it, just after being in it for 3 years. Now does nothing but refer.

I'll probably try it.

Jason, ditto to everything John said.

It is a fascinating company, and I'm both a member and an independent marketing director. I understand why you'd think that maybe you could get the same discounts just by asking - and perhaps on some things you can, but I know that on other things you can't.

Let me try to explain the factory direct stuff. Imagine a web site that bought products from factories - say furniture - and then re-sold it at cost. How could they stay in business?

Well, to get in the front door of that web site, you have to buy a membership. And by the way, the store will also hire you to sell memberships to other people you know, and pay you a commission for doing so.

Could they make money then selling at cost? Sure. Because they're not making money selling products, they're making money selling memberships.

Would any factories sell to them, when they also need to sell to retail outlets? Some won't, but others will. Here's why. All the factories want to make and sell the furniture, but some worry that it will damage their retailers. So those that want to sell more furniture get non-disclosure agreements and/or will do private label products.

What I've found so far on the factory direct stuff, is that these guys are dead serious about selling at cost. They insist for themselves that the ONLY way they will make money is by selling memberships. And that makes for some pretty amazing prices.
