You’ll see a lot of places advertising a phone card business where you sell air time for wireless phones, they’ve been around a while. There’s two problems with running a phone card business. The first is air time has gotten so cheap most people won’t pay the much higher rates for prepaid air time.
These cards are sold now at 7-11′s and just about everywhere it’s convenient to buy them. Also the fact that the only people who really buy them now are people with bad credit where they couldn’t qualify for a cell phone, and you’d have to have some really bad credit for that. To add to the competition, even cell phone carriers offer prepaid plans.
There might still be some opportunities for a phone card business like summer camps to sell them at their stores, or possibly some mom and pop stores who don’t carry them yet. Parents might buy them for their kids to keep control of the time, but short of those type markets it’s going to be a hard sell for a phone card business. Overall, a phone card business is something who’s time has passed in my opinion. Talk about over-saturated!
