What? What do I mean by that? Simple. I know it’s shocking, but the average reader, is reading at about a 3rd grade level. It’s just a fact that you can’t get away from. Hey! Not everyone is as smart as you! Since we know that most people reading your website will be reading it the same way a 9 or 10 year old reads, we now know that we must make sure not to use big words just to make us sound intelligent. As a writer I know I always want to show off how great my vocabulary is and how well educated and well spoken I am.
But I always resist that temptation and keep my writing very basic and easy to understand. Often times that means I must say something the long way and some times I feel like I’m coming across in too simple of a style. But there is no such thing as writing too simple. That’s why all those books “For Dummies” sell so well. People want to get right to the point and they don’t want to learn to do things the long and complicated way.
